While She is Sleeping

You know that the kid is sleeping when I am online. Or I have conveniently handled her over to Wil or Auntie Lorne. She is sweet now as she sleeps now. A confession… I see myself putting aside my book to walk over to the kid’s crib and watch her sleep. And I think I do this quite a bit. The telly has not been on since I got up at 7.20AM. I love to see the kid sleep. She quiet now. Give her another hour to realise she is hungry or her bums are soiled. Lo and behold! This kid changes moods as quickly as Britney Spears gets pregnant. Can I blame it on the horoscopes? Between the 3 of us, there are six personalities - the kid and I are both Geminis while Wil is a Pieces. One moment, you have a barracuda breast-feeding baby (does her jaw aches from all the vigour) and a siren on panic mode as she misplaces the teat (mine!). Then when the tiny tummy is full and fuzzy – “out comes the sunshine”! Ar, my precious!

I have been telling myself to take one day at a time and not think about her so much. You know what? I can’t. Does part of the hormonal changes in my post-pregnancy and post-labour body cause infatuation for the baby as well? Like a love-struck teen, I think about her and talk about her all the time. Other than Da Vinci Code (yes, I read it only last month), I have engulfed 4 books on baby and parenting. Wil have asked me to not talk about her. You know what? My mind was blank. Even the tiny hairs on the back of her shoulders are cute! I blame it on the lack of interaction with other people. Give me some other serious work to do. You know what is my next project? To draw smiling faces on paper plates for hanging on her crib! Hi, my name is Christine and I am a Tara-holic.

Today marks her 5th week birthday. I wonder when will be the day when I stopped counting the days and weeks and be looking at months (Years?! Gasp!).
